The holidays can be difficult for some, especially when grieving a loved one. These are some ways to help you cope around the holidays.
- First, remember that it is okay to be happy. Feeling joy doesn’t diminish how much you love and miss your pet, or loved one.
- The holidays can be quite hectic so set aside some quiet time for yourself to exercise, meditate, listen to music, etc.
- Make a donation to the local animal shelter or other organization that supports your cause.
- Volunteer your tome and so something kind for someone else, when we do good we feel good.
- Feel free to skip holiday events if you are in holiday overload.
- Light a candle in your home in memory of the your lost loved one.
- Start a new tradition.
- Be around people that understand your grief and support you.
- Ask for help if you need to. Seek professional help to help you cope and deal with the loss.
- Make sure to get enough rest.
- Go out for a walk in nature, it can be very healing.
- Hang their stocking.
- It’s okay to feel all of the emotions, it’s a natural process to healing.
I recently lost my oldest dog and this is the first holiday in almost 16 years that she is not there with us, opening her own presents and digging around the gifts. It was difficult to not have her with us, she was missed very much.
